Community Waste Sector

Includes local community groups, charities and social enterprises, who contribute to the development of sustainable resource management, whilst providing employment and volunteering opportunities.  The sector, through developing projects and services for communities, supports the reduction, re-use, recycling and composting of resources.

The work of the sector is able to assist local authorities to meet their household waste recycling and composting targets, whilst providing additional community benefits such as: employment and training opportunities; affordable goods and services and the re-introduction of community spirit.  Environmentally sustainable resource use can help reduce pollution, and  reduce CO2 emissions and is part of the solution to the crisis of climate change.

In Cornwall there are a number of Community Waste Sector organisations, the following are involved in partnership activity with CWA:  Cornwall Scrap Store;  Rezolve;  SOFA;  GOFA
