CWA had their Big Beach Clean and Survey on Sunday 19 September at Marazion Beach. This was part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Big Beachwatch weekend and a Clean Cornwall event
Around 50 volunteers helped CWA staff and volunteers to pick up all the litter on a 300 metre stretch of the beach between Long Rock and the Red River. Every piece of rubbish collected was recorded on the MCS survey sheets. A total of 23 kilos of rubbish was collected in under 2 hours most of which consisted of pieces of plastic and nylon rope.
CWA undertakes a beach clean and survey on Marazion Beach every year and the information recorded is invaluable to MCS in helping them to monitor not only the amount of litter on UK beaches but also its source.
