Environmental Sustainability Award. Cornwall Waste Action won the Contribution to Environmental Sustainability award, at the Unlocking Cornish Potential Autumn 2010 celebratory event.
The award was given to UCP graduate Marie Libert, for her role as Compost Development Worker, in delivering Cornwall Waste Action’s Compost Mentor scheme, which involves recruiting and training volunteer compost mentors throughout Cornwall. Click here for full article on CWA website.
Big Beach Clean. CWA had their Big Beach Clean and Survey on Sunday 19 September at Marazion Beach. This was part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Big Beachwatch weekend and a Clean Cornwall event. Click here for full article on CWA website.
CSV Make a Difference Day. Volunteer Cornwall’s annual celebration of CSV’s Make a Difference Day took place in Redruth on Saturday 30th October with a family fun day, at the Murdoch and Trevithick Centre. CWA were there to promote home composting. Click here to read a full article on Facebook.

CWA Project News
Compost Mentor Scheme. The compost mentors project is still going strong: the Truro and St Austell mentors have now been active for a few months, and they seem to be an exceptionally active group of volunteers, as they have already mentored over 60 households, and completed more than 530 hours of volunteering. Impressive! After training over 100 mentors in west and mid Cornwall we are moving to East Cornwall and are now recruiting mentors in the Bodmin area and soon we will be looking for mentors in Liskeard and Launceston. Changing Communities. Since starting the programme a number of Changing Community partner organisations have been successful in obtaining funding for new projects due to CWA’s involvement. Click here for full article on CWA website
Community Waste Art Project (CWAP). This project will be a partnership between Cornwall Scrapstore and Cornwall Waste Action, providing community workshops that focus on waste awareness as well as creative art. More information
Free Compost Bins. CWA has a number of 230 litre compost bins to give away but without lids! However it is possible to improvise and use a piece of old carpet or wood to cover the bin and still make useable home compost. More information
