Pengegon Swap Shop

There will be a Children’s Swap Shop, for local residents to exchange, toys, books and clothing exchange, on Friday 29th July at Pengegon Scout Hut, in Camborne, from 10. am – 12.30 pm.

The free event is the last activity of the Pengegon Neighbourhood Recycling Project, which is a community waste initiative between Cornwall Waste Action and the Pengegon Area Collective, funded through the Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities Fund, provided by the Learning and Skills Council to promote community based learning for adults.

The project has been raising local awareness about waste reduction, through a series of fortnightly community based workshops since May,  subjects covered have included; composting, cycle repair, food growing, food waste reduction and art and crafts using waste materials.

Cornwall Waste Action’s Community Project Worker Jacqueline Merrick says     ”It’s been a great experience working with the residents of Pengegon, we have covered a wide range of waste reduction issues, which can be easily adapted to everyday lifestyles, as well as providing financial savings and helping the environment.”

As well as an opportunity for residents to exchange toys and other children’s items, there will be an informal workshop about waste reduction and guidance available for local people who may want to set up other local initiatives which help reduce waste. Free refreshments and snacks will be available for people who attend the workshop.

Ms Merrick added ” By running this event at the start of the school summer holidays, we are able to give people the opportunity to have a clear out, and exchange unwanted items for something else that their children could make good use of this summer, whilst their unwanted clothes and toys could be still idea for other children.”

The organisers of this event unfortunately can not allow members of the public to exchange electrical goods, due to health and safety legislation. For more information contact Cornwall Waste Action on 01209 210883 or (Aktiviere JavaScript, um die Email-Adresse zu sehen)
