Cornwall Waste Action won the Contribution to Environmental Sustainability award, at the Unlocking Cornish Potential Autumn 2010 celebratory event.
The award was given to UCP graduate Marie Libert, for her role as Compost Development Worker, in delivering Cornwall Waste Action’s Compost Mentor scheme, which involves recruiting and training volunteer compost mentors throughout Cornwall.
Marie has recruited over 100 active compost mentors and so far at least 200 households have been mentored and encouraged to home compost. She has also raised awareness of the programme and encouraged those who are composting to spread the message.
By the end of 2010, Cornwall Waste Action, predict that at least 40 tons of organic waste will have been diverted from landfill waste by this project.
